The LNC Archives:
The Lincoln Institute, Natchitoches Parish Training School,
and Central High School Archives

The original site of the Natchitoches Parish Training School now serves as
the Ben Johnson Auditorium and houses memorabilia from this historic school.

Much work could to be initiated to preserve the memory of the Lincoln Institute, the Natchitoches Parish Training School, Central High School, and Natchitoches Central High School. Important documents are held, no doubt, among alumni. The LNC Archives, housed at the Ben Johnson Auditorium and overseen by Curator Alma Loftin Johnson, and the Watson Memorial Library’s Henry Research Center of Northwestern State University could become important archival repositories.

The Museum of Education applauds the existence of the LNC Archives. Not all of the sites of the historic participating schools have such facilities. We hope that more oral history interviews are conducted, and school materials and documents are acquired and placed in safe-keeping. A comprehensive school history of these educational institutions cries out for a thoughtful and sensitive historian.
